BENDIGO golf’s rising star Lucas Herbert will be shooting for a berth at the US Masters when he tees-off in the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship on Thursday.
The 17-year-old sensation is part of one of Australia’s strongest-ever contingents for the event in China, where the winner will gain entry to the 2014 Masters.
Five Australians finished in the top 11 last year.
Invitations are sent to the leading amateurs from the 37 Asia-Pacific-affiliated golf organisations.
The winner and the runner-up gain entry to qualifying for next year’s Open Championship.
The format of the APAC is 72-hole stroke play with a cut to 60 players after 36 holes.
