Fire and Rescue NSW teams from around Sydneyhave been deployed over the past week to fight blazes inthe Blue Mountains, Newcastle, Maitland and the south coast.

A Fire and rescue NSW spokesperson said extrafire trucks had been staffed and sent to where they were most needed.

”We have also called in resources from interstate and regional fire stations to help backfill Sydney stations and assist with the bushfire effort,” the spokesperson said.

”Fire & Rescue NSW still has resources available to respond to fires and other emergencies in the greater Sydney area.

”If necessary, we will also call on support from the Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting Service at Sydney Airport and the State Rail Fire Authority.”

The spokesperson said a crew usually hadfour firefighters and a fire engine or tanker.

”A strike team is generally led by an inspector with four crews,” the spokesperson said.

”In some instances, some of the crews forming part of the strike team were made up of recalled firefighters from different shifts.

Following is an ouitline of where some crews have been deployed in recent days:

A crew from Merrylands Fire Station was deployed as part of strike team Delta on October 17. It was sentto Mount Victoria, where memberssaved scores of houses from bushfires. The team waslater redeployed to Springwood, where it spent several hours protecting homes and extinguishing spot fires.

Crews from Mt Druitt Fire Station, Baulkham Hills Fire Station, Regentville Fire Station and Guildford Fire Station formed Strike Team Charlie on October 18. The team was sentto Yellow Rock in the Blue Mountains where it spent the day protecting properties, back burning, extinguishing spot fires and making the area safe.

A crew from Kellyville Fire Station, Schofields Fire Station and Rydalmere Fire Station formed part of Strike Team Golf on October 18. The teamwassent to Nords Wharf, near Catherine Hill Bay on the Central Coast. It spent the day protecting properties, back burning and extinguishing spot fires.

A crew from Smithfield Fire Station formed part of Strike Team Hotel on October 18. The team wasdeployed to Cams Wharf of the Central Coast where it spent the day protecting properties, back burning, extinguishing spot fires and making the area safe.

A crew from Ryde Fire Station formed part of Strike Team Bravo on October 18. The team wasdeployed to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains where it spent the day helping with fire fighting operations.

Crews from Mt Druitt Fire Station and Seven Hills Fire Station formed part of Strike Team Echo and a crew from Merrylands Fire Station formed part of Strike Team Delta on October 20. The teams weremarshalled at Regentville Fire Station before they were deployed to the Blue Mountains to help with fire fighting.

A crew from Eastwood Fire Station formed part of Strike Team Bravo on October 20. The crew wasdeployed to Winmalee in the Blue Mountains where it spent the day protecting properties, back burning, extinguishing spot fires and making the area safe.

A crew from Rydalmere Fire Station formed part of Strike Team Charlie on October 20. The crew wasdeployed to Bilpin in the Blue Mountains where it spent the day protecting properties, back burning, extinguishing spot fires and making the area safe.

Crews from Mt Druitt Fire Station and Smithfield Fire Station formed part of Strike Team Golf on October 21. The team wasdeployed to the Katoomba area where it helpedwith fire fighting.

Crews from Parramatta Fire Station and Merrylands Fire Station formed part of Strike Team Foxtrot on October 21. The team wasdeployed to the Blackheath area where it helped prepare the area for today’s expected fire conditions.

Overnight on October 21, crews from Seven Hills Fire Station, Cranebrook Fire Station and Schofields Fire Station formed part of Strike Team Foxtrot. The team wasalso deployed to the Blackheath area where it helped prepare the area for today’s expected fire conditions.

Overnight on October 21, a crew from Ryde Fire Station formed part of Strike Team Hotel. The crew wasalso deployed to Blackheath to help prepare for today’s expected fire conditions.

Yesterday crews from Mt Druitt Fire Station, Rydalmere Fire Station and Smithfield Fire Station formed part of Strike Team Hotel and a crew from Blacktown Fire Station formed part of Strike Team Foxtrot. The crews weredeployed to Blackheath where they prepared the area for today’s expected fire conditions.

Yesterday a crew from Merrylands Fire Station formed part of Strike Team Golf. The crew wasdeployed to the area around Springwood High School where it prepared the area for today’s expected fire conditions. It helped reinforce containment lines and took part inback burning.

Today, crews from Seven Hills, Baulkham Hills, Schofields, Guildford, Eastwood and Bonnyrigg Heights are working in and around Katoomba.
