The second round of cricket saw both games ending up one-sided.
Redhill had a big win at Georgetown and Crystal Brook easily accounted for Gladstone’s modest score at home.
Georgetown v Redhill
Redhill’s captain Simon Hayes won the toss and elected to bat on a sun-bathed, windy, fly-infested Georgetown oval.
Ben Pilkington and S. Hayes opened the innings, the skipper only lasting four balls when he holed out trying to pull Mitchell Burgess to Matt Fejo at mid-on for a duck.
Daniel Hayes joined Pilkington and they added 51 before Hayes was caught by Campbell Burgess at gully off Andrew Richens for 13.
Cam Kerr and Pilkington then added 44 for the fourth wicket before Kerr had his middle stump removed by Brett Murdock for 21 right on drinks with the score at 3/96.
Nick Hayes made 23 of the 36-run partnership with Pilkington when he was caught behind by John Ballantyne off Murdock.
Kyle Stringer made 15 before he had his middle stump removed by Terry Anderson and with Pilkington still at the crease Redhill were heading towards a good score.
Georgetown picked up three quick wickets to have Redhill at 8/181 in the 36th over with Joe Heinjus caught J Ballantyne bowled Murdock for 3, Brett Whiting caught by Shane Ballantyne on the mid wicket fence off Steven Hollow for 8 and Ben Weckert caught S Ballantyne at gully off Murdock for 2.
The last 7 overs saw only one wicket fall, that of Nathan Hayes who was out in the last over bowled A Richens for 7 with a partnership of 38 with Pilkington.
During this partnership with Hayes, Pilkington brought up his 2nd century in Rocky River Cricket carrying his bat to finish on 115 n.o.
Ben Heinjus faced 2 balls and finished 1 n.o. with Redhill at 9/220.
Best of Georgetown bowlers was Murdock with 4/48 off 12, Richens 2/34 off 7, M Burgess 1/20, S Hollow 1/25 and T Anderson 1/29. Ander-son and Murdock opened for Georgetown and were travelling along nicely until Anderson 7 chased a wide delivery from B Heinjus to give D Hayes an easy catch behind with the score at 21.
Murdock was looking dangerous until he miss-timed a pull shot and handed S Hayes an easy catch at mid wicket off Nathan Hayes for 24.
With S Ballantyne and C Burgess at the crease they added 33 for the 3rd wicket when Ballantyne was dismissed for 15 when he handed Nathan Hayes a catch at mid wicket off S Hayes.
After taking a severe hit in the midriff, C Burgess managed to survive only three more deliveries when he was bowled by Whiting for 15.
With the score still on 70, Georgetown lost their 5th wicket when Fejo was caught by Pilkington off Whiting for a duck, leaving the bowler on a hat-trick which was survived by J Ballantyne.
With Mitchell Burgess they added 36 for the 6th wicket when Ballantyne was LBW to Joe Heinjus for 15.
The last 4 wickets fell for 9 runs with Lachie Wilsdon bowled Nathan Hayes for 0, Richens bowled J Heinjus for 0, M Burgess bowled B Weckert for 18, Shaun Noonan bowled Weckert for 0 and Hollow remained 0 n.o., Georgetown all out 115.
The wickets were all shared around with J Heinjus 2/11, B Weckert 2/20, B Whiting 2/20, Nathan Hayes 2/23, S Hayes 1/0 and B Heinjus 1/15.
Crystal Brook v Gladstone
Josh Gale won the toss for the Brook and put Gladstone into bat.
Three balls into the innings, Lee Ballantyne was caught behind by Gale off Adam Kupsch for a duck. Jamie Davidson joined Ian Harslett and they added 33 for the 2nd wicket before Harslett attempted an ambitious 2nd run and was run out for 17 at 2/34.
Keiren Glenn joined Davidson who was caught by Jack Cousins off Ben Kupsch for 19 and with no addition to the score Michael Stevens was caught by Chris Fogarty off B Kupsch for a duck.
Dylan Hansen and Glenn added 37 when Glenn was caught by Sam Cousins off Luke Kapitola for 17.
The rest of the innings became the Ben Kupsch show as he took 4 of the last 5 wickets when he bowled Jed Hennessy 9, Tai Page 9, Keenan Smith 4 and Taylor Smith 0.
The other wicket was taken by his brother Adam when he had Paul Humphris caught by Gale behind for 1, Gladstone all out for 118.
B Kupsch finished with 6/48 off 10.3 overs, A Kupsch 2/32 and Kapitola 1/30.
K Glenn captured the first 3 wickets of Crystal Brooks innings to have them 3/34 with Gale caught by Humphris behind for 14, B Kupsch caught K Smith for 9 and Kapitola was LBW for 1.
J Cousins and Steve Merkel took to the Gladstone bowling to make easy work of the target and when Cousins was caught by Hennessy off Hansen for 45 the score was 116.
Merkel was bowled by Hennessy for 45 with the score at 5/145. A Kupsch was bowled by Page for 10 and Sam Cousins was caught by Humphris off Hennessy for 23 with the score at 7/172.
Only another 2 runs were added for the loss of the last 3 wickets. Shaun Grocke 1 and Styles 0 were both bowled by K Smith.
Paul Fogarty was caught Hansen bowled T Smith for 0 and Chris Fogarty remained 2 n.o. with Crystal Brook dismissed for 174 in the 33rd over. Glenn finished with 3/42 off 8, K Smith bowled 1 over to finish with 2/1, Hennessy 2/37 off 10, T Smith 1/1, Hansen 1/33 and Page 1/56.
